I used to love to play sports, watch sports, as many as possible. Most of the sports have been turned into entertainment, and just another financial opportunity for the power elite super rich. Money has even permeated and ruined youth sports.

What I’ve watched over the years is the influence of professional wrestling, nascar racing, golf, and a few other “sports”. This ability to make money by creating entertainment led to changes in baseball, football, basketball, et al.

The new pollution is gambling, with the prediction markets dominating the endless commercials which are more time consuming than the game itself. I honestly believe that the pace of play improvements have merely translated into more advertising revenue.

There are very few sports left that haven’t been affected. Maybe bowling. Maybe track and field, although road racing has been taken over by for profit companies that create silly races to attract couch to 5Kers and weekend warriors. Everyone shows up with their air buds and runs inside their little bubble of anonymity.

There, now I feel better.
